National Seafarer Development Programme Intern

About the role

SAIMI is looking for an intern to support the National Seafarer Development Programme (NSDP). The role involves day‑to‑day administrative duties that help grow seafarer numbers, training providers and shipping partners. The intern will also promote maritime careers and ensure compliance with funder and university policies.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the central contact for NSDP enquiries and promote access to online learning courses.
• Support learners and training providers, raise awareness of careers at sea, and maintain accurate project reports.
• Assist with stakeholder engagement initiatives that educate the public about South Africa’s ocean economy.
• Maintain project information, prepare narrative reports, and create a library of project materials.
• Provide secretarial support: answer calls, schedule meetings, take minutes, draft correspondence, and manage the filing system.

Required profile

• Post‑school qualification in maritime studies (e.g., National Diploma, BTech, or 3‑4‑year degree).
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
• Strong written and spoken English communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.
• Interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
