Literacy Tutor – Support English & Literacy in Redbridge Schools

About the role

The Literacy Tutor will deliver targeted 1:1 and small‑group support to primary and secondary pupils who need extra help with English, reading, writing and communication. You will work closely with teachers and school staff to ensure vulnerable and disadvantaged learners, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL), can access the curriculum and build confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide personalised tutoring sessions for individuals and small groups.
• Assist pupils in developing reading comprehension, writing skills and oral communication.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align support with lesson plans.
• Monitor progress and report improvements in attainment.
• Support EAL learners and students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Required profile

• First‑class or 2:1 degree in English, Humanities, Modern Languages or a related subject from a UK university.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Passion for helping vulnerable and disadvantaged young people.
• Previous tutoring, mentoring, teaching or child‑focused experience.
• TEFL qualification or EAL experience is desirable but not essential.
