Legal Officer

About the role

The Legal Officer will oversee the enforcement of MIBCO’s collective agreements within the assigned region. This role involves managing legal claims, preparing case files, and representing MIBCO in conciliation and arbitration hearings.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage the legal process related to the enforcement of MIBCO collective agreements.
• Manage claims filed against the establishment and prepare case files for hearings.
• Attend conciliation and arbitration hearings, present MIBCO’s case, and ensure compliance with collective agreements.
• Maintain quality control of legal activities across the region.
• Liaise with external legal service providers and support other functions as directed by the manager.
• File variation applications, interpret arbitration awards, and oppose rescission applications.
• Verify and withdraw finalized cases, handle unpaid settlement agreements, and negotiate administrative matters.
• Draft heads of arguments, applications, and legal recommendations for Regional Council Board meetings.

Required profile

• Ability to interpret, apply, and enforce MIBCO collective agreements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Good decision‑making, problem‑solving, and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent negotiation, report‑writing, administration, organizational, and planning skills.
