Legal Counsel – Sub‑Saharan Africa

About the role

As a Legal Counsel for the Sub‑Saharan Africa Business Unit, you will lead the company’s legal activities across multiple countries, supporting both commercial and corporate initiatives. You will act as a strategic partner to business units, ensuring compliance with local laws while protecting the company’s assets and reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement legal strategies that enable aggressive competition and mitigate risk.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice on commercial agreements, supply‑chain, IP, consumer protection and HR matters.
• Manage relationships with external counsel, overseeing budgets and performance.
• Serve as the local Compliance Officer, ensuring adherence to Mondelēz Global Legal standards.
• Monitor regulatory changes across the region and advise business leaders on implications.
• Lead dispute resolution and negotiate complex transactions.

Required profile

• Legal experience in a large, matrixed multinational environment.
• Strong analytical, strategic and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven track record of assessing risk and providing sound legal counsel.
• Highest level of integrity and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
