Head of Quality

About the role

CubeSpace is seeking an experienced, independent‑minded Head of Quality to take ultimate ownership of quality assurance and compliance across the business. The role leads the Quality Management System, drives ISO 9001 and AS9100 certification, and authorises product release for satellite attitude determination and control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end Quality Management System, define policies, objectives and document control, and lead ISO 9001 certification followed by AS9100D certification and ongoing surveillance.
• Set acceptance criteria, inspection methods and control plans for all production departments, qualify and train inspectors, and ensure calibrated measurement systems.
• Independently verify and release every product before shipment, reviewing End‑Item Data Packs, performing acceptance checks and authorising Certificates of Conformance.
• Manage supplier quality, conduct supplier audits, oversee counterfeit‑part prevention (AS5553) and maintain approved‑supplier lists.
• Lead internal audit programmes, handle non‑conformance, CAPA, RMA and warranty quality, and report compliance to the executive committee.

Required profile

• 8–10+ years of quality experience in aerospace, space, defence or medical‑device manufacturing, including 2–3 years leading a quality function.
• Proven track record of taking an organisation through ISO 9001 or AS9100 certification and sustaining it.
• Relevant engineering, science or quality degree, or equivalent professional experience.
• Legal right to work in South Africa and willingness to be based in Stellenbosch.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100D, AS9102 and AS5553 standards.
• Root‑cause analysis, CAPA methodology and non‑conformance disposition.
• Calibration and measurement systems management, configuration management and statistical sampling.
• ERP and PLM based quality workflows; ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and test data.
