Fractional CFO (Remote, Part-Time)

About the role

A growing SME needs a remote fractional CFO to provide expert financial oversight, model review and strategic structuring advice. The role starts at about 4 to 5 hours per month and works on an ad-hoc, project-commissioned basis, acting as a trusted oversight partner to company directors and working directly with the internal finance contact. It does not involve day-to-day bookkeeping.

Key responsibilities

• Review and stress-test financial models, budgets, forecasts and business cases, checking logic, formulas and assumptions
• Run scenario and sensitivity tests (best, base, worst case) and give clear opinions on risks and recommendations
• Perform monthly diagnostics of balance sheets, income statements and cash flows, and track key ratios
• Advise on capital allocation, debt versus equity funding, facility consolidation and pricing strategies
• Edit and finalise bi-annual funder reports and reconcile metrics against internal tracking systems
• Oversee compliance with CIPC, SARS, VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, IFRS for SMEs, B-BBEE, POPIA and COIDA

Required profile

• Recognised professional accounting qualification (CA(SA) preferred, or ACCA / CIMA)
• Prior experience as a CFO, Financial Manager or Financial Consultant to SMEs, preferably in a fractional or part-time capacity
• Proven experience preparing or reviewing funder and covenant reports for loan or debtor books
• Strong knowledge of South African tax and Companies Act/CIPC requirements
• Ability to work autonomously on an ad-hoc, project-based model
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical financial matters simply
• Desirable: familiarity with FSCA/FAIS, FICA and the Debt Collectors Act
