Financial Controller

About the role

Wetility, a leading solar fintech company in South Africa, is seeking a Financial Controller to safeguard financial integrity and drive operational efficiency. The role will manage financial reporting, statutory compliance, internal controls and the end‑to‑end billing process for its subscription‑based solar solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly and annual close across all entities, ensuring timely and accurate book closure.
• Prepare and review management accounts with variance commentary against budget and prior period.
• Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts and accounting policies in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
• Review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, depreciation schedules and revenue recognition entries.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, intercompany and control accounts.
• Support FP&A activities such as budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow planning.
• Oversee statutory compliance including VAT returns, PAYE, income‑tax provisions and CIPC filings.
• Lead the annual external audit, preparing audit files and managing auditor queries.
• Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting, identifying and remediating weaknesses.
• Drive process improvement and automation across the finance function, including system enhancements and reporting tooling.
• Own the end‑to‑end billing cycle, ensuring accurate, complete and timely invoices.
• Manage recurring billing schedules, pro‑rations, mid‑cycle changes, credits and refunds.
• Reconcile billing system data to the general ledger and bank accounts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial reporting and month‑end close for multiple entities.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and South African statutory requirements (VAT, PAYE, income tax, CIPC).
• Demonstrated ability to lead external audits and interact with auditors.
• Experience in developing and maintaining internal controls over financial reporting.
• Ability to manage complex billing processes and reconcile billing data to accounting records.
• Proficiency in supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow planning activities.
