Financial Accountant

About the role

The Financial Accountant will support the Head Financial Accountant in managing daily financial operations and ensuring accurate reporting for a retail/fintech business. This position combines transaction processing, reconciliations, and month‑end close activities while offering opportunities to improve financial processes.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily financial transactions and perform bank reconciliations.
• Capture and reconcile supplier invoices within the S2S system.
• Assist with other daily reconciliations and month‑end account preparation.
• Examine financial records for accuracy and compliance.
• Capture debtor invoices, reconcile accounts, and follow up on outstanding debts.
• Prepare and deliver daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.

Required profile

• BCom Financial Accounting or a comparable accounting degree (essential).
• Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience (essential).
• Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation and financial controls.
• Experience in a retail or fintech environment is preferred.
• Willingness to work remotely or from the Stellenbosch office.
• Valid driver’s licence, reliable transport, South African citizenship, and clear credit and criminal records.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Advanced competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new financial systems quickly.
