Drill Assistant – Mining Operations

About the role

We are looking for a Drill Assistant to support the set‑up and preparation of drilling equipment, ensure accurate hole measurements and help improve the quality of drilled samples. The role is based in our mining operations and contributes to safe and efficient drilling activities.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures, wear required PPE and participate in safety meetings, risk assessments and incident follow‑up.
• Assist in the set‑up, preparation and transport of drilling tools, equipment and materials to the drill site.
• Support the drill operator by overseeing the drill sequence and ensuring the planned drilling programme is executed correctly.
• Prepare drilling sites by clearing debris, levelling terrain and performing basic groundwork.
• Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs on drilling equipment under supervision.
• Handle, organise and maintain drilling tools, keeping them ready for use.
• Collect and record drilling data such as depth and material encountered, and report any issues to senior staff.

Required profile

• Grade 12/N3 qualification.
• Valid Red Permit (DB) and Dover Permit.
• Competency A (preferred) and a second machine‑operating licence (preferred).
• South African driver’s licence.
• Basic technical knowledge of equipment operation, safety protocols, material handling and drilling procedures.
