Electrical Foreman

About the role

Afrimat Iron Ore is seeking an experienced Electrical Foreman to lead the electrical team at its Kathu mining operation. The role involves overseeing medium and high voltage systems, ensuring safe and reliable power supply for critical mining equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate electrical artisans and contractors, ensuring work meets standards and deadlines.
• Plan and execute preventative maintenance, troubleshoot equipment failures and manage emergency breakdown repairs.
• Enforce safety standards, conduct risk assessments and lead toolbox talks in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Manage budgets, procure spare parts and maintain tools and equipment.
• Supervise MV/HV reticulation, sub‑station maintenance and specialised mining equipment such as crushers.
• Maintain accurate records, update maintenance systems and report progress to senior engineering staff.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• Valid Electrical Trade Test and driver’s licence.
• Minimum five years’ management experience in a mining environment.
• Authorisation to perform high/medium voltage switching and a valid MV/HT competency certificate (advantage).
• Strong people‑management and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.

Required skills

• Advanced fault‑finding.
• Interpretation of complex blueprints and schematics.
• Knowledge of PLC systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Experience with medium and high voltage (MV/HV) switching.
