Debtors Clerk

About the role

Our client, a leading importer, exporter, processor and distributor of seafood products, is seeking an experienced Debtors Clerk for their plant on Paarden Island near Cape Town. The role involves managing a high‑value debtor book, ensuring timely payments, and handling queries from major retail accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a debtor book of approximately R50 million.
• Capture journals and bank statements.
• Process customer invoices and ensure collections are completed.
• Monitor accounts for non‑payments and follow up on overdue balances.
• Investigate and resolve customer queries promptly.
• Submit various portal entries, process claims and price adjustments.
• Perform monthly reconciliations and issue customer statements.
• Report significant overdue items to the AR manager weekly.

Required profile

• 2+ years of debtors experience in FMCG or food environment.
• Experience handling debtor books larger than R50 million.
• Worked with major retail accounts such as Pick&Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, etc.
• Fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
• Matric with Mathematics and Accounting; accounting qualification advantageous.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and think creatively.
