Assistant Manager – Distribution Center (Bloemfontein)

About the role

The Assistant Manager supports the Distribution Center Manager by providing strong, visible oversight on the warehouse floor to ensure inventory is accurately picked, checked, packed and shipped on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Distribution Center Manager in executing the operational plan and intervene when necessary.
• Maintain visible supervision on the warehouse floor and coordinate daily work assignments.
• Issue approved pick lists and control the flow of picking, checking and loading activities.
• Ensure inventory is accurately picked, packed and ready for shipment according to the route schedule.
• Monitor vehicle departures to meet cut‑off times and enforce safe stacking and storage practices.
• Coordinate cycle counts, inventory surveys and report discrepancies immediately.
• Manage returns, damaged or quarantined stock and enforce safety and housekeeping standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (or equivalent).
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Practical knowledge of picking, packing, loading, inventory control and stock‑taking processes.
• Familiarity with route schedules, returns handling and performance monitoring (preferred).
• Understanding of safe warehouse practices and occupational health & safety (preferred).
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work shifts or extended hours.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or similar inventory software.
• General computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, data entry).
