Accountant Positions – Finance Management (Various Roles)

About the role

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality’s Financial Management Directorate is recruiting for several accountant positions covering Debits, Disposal, Rates & Taxes, and a Contracts and Administration Specialist. These roles support municipal financial operations, asset disposal, revenue collection, and contract management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accounts receivable, debtor ageing, and cash allocation, ensuring timely reconciliation with the General Ledger.
• Develop and monitor asset disposal policies, conduct cost‑benefit analyses, and coordinate disposal processes.
• Administer billing, rates, taxes and property valuations in line with municipal legislation.
• Coordinate supplier contract signing, ensure compliance with procurement and legal requirements.
• Prepare audit files, maintain internal controls and ensure tax, legal and statutory compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Logistics Management or Law, or equivalent Advanced National Diploma.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience, with at least two years in supervisory or staff‑management roles.
• Knowledge of the Municipal Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, GRAP and related legislative frameworks.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work on‑site at the municipal offices in Welkom.

Required skills

• Advanced computer literacy (e.g., spreadsheet and financial software).
• Proficiency in Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP).
• Certification or willingness to obtain the Municipal Finance Management Programme (MFMP/CPMD) within 18 months.
