Accountant – Financial Reporting & Compliance

About the role

Our client is looking for a professional, detail‑oriented Accountant to join the finance team in Pretoria. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and delivering insights that support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and ensure data accuracy.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and provide variance analysis.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, process journal entries and adjustments.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, manage invoicing, collections and cash‑flow monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with South African regulations (SARS, VAT, PAYE) and prepare tax returns.
• Support payroll processing and statutory deductions.
• Implement and monitor internal financial controls and risk mitigation measures.
• Analyse financial trends and recommend improvements to performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3–5 years of experience in an accounting role.
• Professional qualification (SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA) completed or in progress.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and South African tax legislation.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage, Pastel, Xero or SAP.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
