PHP Developer – Cape Town (Hybrid)

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced PHP Developer to take ownership of a mature software platform within its Revenue Systems division. The role involves initial knowledge transfer, ongoing maintenance, and future enhancements for a platform serving a growing customer base.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of a mature PHP‑based software platform.
• Participate in structured knowledge transfer from an external development partner.
• Maintain, support, and optimise existing production systems.
• Develop new features and enhancements aligned with business requirements.
• Build and maintain integrations with third‑party systems and APIs.
• Ensure software reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and platform improvements.
• Collaborate with technical and operational stakeholders.
• Support best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of commercial PHP development experience.
• Strong proficiency in PHP 8.0 or later.
• Experience with Laravel and/or Symfony.
• Experience maintaining and improving legacy and custom PHP applications.
• Strong MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database experience.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, API Keys and secure integration practices.
• Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
