Materials Tester

About the role

SGS Matrolab is recruiting a Materials Tester for the Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Northwest and Free State civil engineering laboratories. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, the role covers basic laboratory housekeeping, adherence to quality and safety requirements and oral reporting of deviations, irregularities and non-conformances. It is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Clean company equipment regularly and clean all test equipment after every job.
• Clean up the work area and remove all consumables used during the job (e.g. masking tape, tins).
• Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
• Orally report deviations, irregularities and non-conformances.
• Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the site supervisor, laboratory manager or regional manager.
• Be competent to perform duties in the relevant department (soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate).
• Comply with the Company's Code of Integrity and Code of Conduct, and act safely for yourself, colleagues and clients.

Required profile

• Education: Grade 10 (NQF 3) or an additional two years of relevant experience for each year of schooling below Grade 12.
• Experience: Grade 10 with two years of relevant experience, or NQF 3 with two years of relevant experience, or an additional two years for each year of schooling below Grade 10.
• Competent to perform assigned tasks in the relevant department (TMH 1 and SANS).
• Experience in a SANAS-accredited laboratory is an advantage.
• Disciplined, respectful of colleagues and management, deadline and revenue driven, with energy to maintain good staff relationships.
