Software Engineer III

About the role

The successful candidate will join Shoprite’s digital commerce team to design, build and maintain the Sixty60 web solution. This role focuses on clean architecture, quality code, and collaboration across product infrastructure layers to deliver a robust, scalable customer‑facing experience.

Key responsibilities

• Push web technologies to their limits and stay ahead of emerging trends.
• Design, build and maintain the next generation of the digital commerce web solution.
• Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize efficiency.
• Apply Test‑Driven Development (TDD) principles throughout the development lifecycle.
• Write unit tests to ensure robustness, covering edge cases, usability and reliability.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent in computer science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of software development experience in complex, high‑performing environments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced, growing environment and take accountability for actions.
• Problem‑solving mindset and willingness to think outside the box.
• Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
• Retail‑industry experience is advantageous.
