Senior Immigration & Border Governance Specialist

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) portfolio across Southern Africa. Based in Pretoria, the specialist will provide strategic direction, technical advice and programme development support to strengthen integrated border governance in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior‑level technical leadership and strategic advice on immigration and border governance issues.
• Coordinate regional IBG initiatives and ensure alignment with IOM’s Strategic Plan and IBG Framework.
• Support resource mobilisation efforts and develop partnerships with governments, UN agencies, NGOs and the private sector.
• Lead programme design, implementation and monitoring to promote humane and orderly migration.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity‑building activities across Southern African member states.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in immigration, border management or related fields, preferably in a Southern African context.
• Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, intergovernmental organisations and civil society.
• Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills.
• Fluency in English; additional language skills are an asset.
