Legal, Compliance & Risk Management Officer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Legal, Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Officer to support the legal, compliance, governance and risk functions of a leading financial services group operating in South Africa, Mauritius and the United Kingdom. Reporting to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer / Group General Counsel, you will help ensure regulatory compliance and manage legal and operational risks across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice, draft and manage commercial contracts, and oversee regulatory matters.
• Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry standards in all operating regions.
• Support enterprise risk management, compliance monitoring and internal control frameworks.
• Assist with board, committee and corporate governance processes.
• Oversee AML/KYC compliance, regulatory reporting, inspections and remediation activities.
• Draft and maintain policies, procedures and governance documentation.
• Coordinate with regulators, external counsel and internal stakeholders on cross‑border legal and compliance issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in legal, compliance, risk or regulatory roles, preferably in a top‑tier law firm.
• Strong knowledge of financial sector legislation, AML/CFT requirements and corporate governance.
• Experience in investment management, asset management, banking, insurance or related sectors is advantageous.
