Safety, Health & Environment Officer

About the role

The SHE Officer will lead safety, health, environment and security initiatives for Dis-Chem's Gqeberha head office. You will ensure compliance with legislation, corporate governance standards and internal policies while supporting business continuity and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain SHEQ resilience plans and business continuity management (BCM) procedures for all Dis-Chem sites.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations and audits.
• Coordinate emergency drills, evacuation exercises and mitigation strategies for fire, flood, break‑ins and other threats.
• Manage contractor compliance and oversee training programmes for site managers and employees.
• Support the implementation of SHEQ strategies, policies and preventive measures across the retail network.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
• Diploma or degree in Safety Management, SAMTRAC or a related qualification.
• 3–5 years of safety experience in a retail environment.
• Strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office and MS Project.
