Renewable Energy Engineer – Electrical Focus

About the role

Arup is seeking a Renewable Energy Engineer to join its multi‑disciplinary Energy team in South Africa. The role will be based in either Johannesburg or Cape Town and will focus on electrical engineering aspects of renewable energy projects, supporting the delivery of cutting‑edge solutions for decarbonising the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical due diligence, owner’s engineer and lender’s technical advisor services for renewable energy assets.
• Support project delivery across solar, wind, battery energy storage (BESS) and high‑voltage (≥132 kV) systems.
• Contribute to business development, project management and client interfacing activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal technical solutions and value for clients.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering (B.Eng., B.Sc. or B.Tech).
• Relevant experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly solar, wind, BESS or high‑voltage systems.
• Demonstrated experience within the South African energy market.
