Relief Donor Care Officer

About the role

The Relief Donor Care Officer is responsible for assessing donor eligibility and performing a range of blood collection procedures in accordance with established protocols. This role ensures that collection targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Assess donor acceptability according to protocol and perform Whole Blood, Whole Blood Autologous/Designate, Double Red Cell and Apheresis Platelet collections.
• Achieve collection targets and meet financial and operational objectives.
• Maintain quality and risk compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provide ad‑hoc supervision of clinic staff to promote teamwork and professional service delivery.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with donors and customers.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) with current SANC registration.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
• BLS certification and current CPR certificate.
• Valid Code 8 or Code 10 driver’s licence; occasional driving of a company vehicle may be required.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends and variable hours.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 14 kg, assist with loading/unloading vehicles and climb stairs.
