Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer – Environmental Science

About the role

The Department of Environmental Science seeks qualified academics to join its faculty as Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research and community engagement while providing leadership within the department and the wider university.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science and the social dimensions of socio‑ecological systems.
• Develop and lead independent research programmes, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and obtain external research funding.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD students to successful completion.
• Engage with community partners, stakeholders and outreach initiatives.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university governance, including administrative and leadership duties.

Required profile

• PhD in Environmental Science or a related biological, social or economic discipline focusing on human‑environment interactions.
• Demonstrated research track record with publications and grant acquisition.
• Significant teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Experience supervising Master’s and doctoral research.
• National or emerging international reputation in the discipline; NRF rating advantageous for senior appointments.
• Proven record of administrative, managerial or leadership responsibilities.
