Legal Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Legal Specialist to join our team and provide expert contract and governance support. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contractual documents while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and legal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, NDAs, SLAs, POAs, resolutions, legal letters and notices.
• Provide timely legal advice on contractual obligations, liabilities, warranties, indemnities and other terms.
• Develop and maintain standard contract templates and train staff on their use.
• Support corporate governance and compliance processes, including contract approval procedures and authority matrices.
• Identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks by updating procurement and contractual documentation.
• Maintain the legal documentation database and conduct legal research as required.
• Adhere to legal best practices to minimise exposure for the company.
• Provide administrative assistance to the legal team and support junior colleagues.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years post‑qualification experience in private practice or in‑house, preferably in‑house.
• Bachelor’s degree minimum and a JD/LLB or equivalent legal training.
• Admission to practice law in a primary jurisdiction (South Africa preferred).
• Experience with top‑tier international law firms or comparable legal departments.
• Resilience under pressure, a can‑do attitude, strong negotiation and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal awareness and adaptability.
