Legal Advisor – Commercial

About the role

We are seeking a Commercial Legal Advisor to join a well‑established financial services business in Johannesburg. You will provide sound legal support within the deal‑structuring team, ensuring statutory compliance and minimizing risk for transactions such as franchise and contract finance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal advice and support to the deal‑structuring team.
• Handle statutory reporting and legal advisory services aligned with business requirements.
• Develop legal solutions that reduce risk for franchise, contract finance and related transactions.
• Conduct legal due diligence and draft accurate legal documentation.
• Interpret and apply laws related to corporate finance, structured finance, investment banking, tax, Companies Act, insolvency and labour law.
• Negotiate terms, provide legal opinions and represent the business in legal discussions.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in corporate and commercial law, banking and finance.
• Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• In‑depth understanding of laws governing corporate finance, structured finance and investment banking.
• Familiarity with tax, Companies Act, insolvency and labour law.
• Proven experience in legal due diligence.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail, negotiation, decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
