Lecturer to Associate Professor – Accounting (5 positions)

About the role

The University of the Free State’s School of Accountancy is seeking five qualified academics to fill Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor positions. Successful candidates will teach and develop accounting modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels on the Bloemfontein campus.

Key responsibilities

• Teach, coordinate and assess modules in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Finance, Taxation and Auditing.
• Develop students’ digital competencies and other graduate attributes.
• Contribute to curriculum design, ensuring alignment with professional accountancy bodies and emerging industry needs.
• Conduct research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Engage with the accountancy profession and professional bodies to foster collaborations.
• Perform administrative duties within the School of Accountancy.
• For Senior Lecturers: provide academic leadership, oversee quality assurance, supervise postgraduate research and mentor junior staff.
• For Associate Professors: assume broader academic leadership within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.

Required profile

• Relevant academic qualifications (typically a PhD) with SAQA accreditation for foreign degrees.
• Proof of identity (South African ID or passport).
• Evidence of current or recent employment (letter, contract, service certificate or payslip) for external applicants.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in accounting or related subjects.
• Strong research record with publications in reputable journals.
