Island Nurse

About the role

The Island Nurse will join a small health team on Stronsay, delivering primary and community nursing services to a remote island population of around 321 residents. Working autonomously without immediate hospital support, you will play a key part in NHS Orkney’s vision of a centre of excellence in remote and rural healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive community and practice nursing care across the lifespan.
• Assess, plan and monitor the quality of health care for island residents.
• Collaborate with GPs and other clinicians via weekly Teams meetings to share knowledge and reduce professional isolation.
• Maintain 24/7 health service availability in partnership with the Orcades Practice network.
• Utilise non‑medical prescribing to manage patient needs safely.

Required profile

• Experienced Band 6 nurse with up‑to‑date clinical knowledge.
• Adaptable, resourceful and professionally accountable.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
• Motivated to develop a broad range of generalist skills.
• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
