Imports Controller – Ocean Freight

About the role

The Imports Controller is responsible for managing Ocean Freight Import shipments from initiation to final clearance. You will ensure that all shipments comply with company policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards while delivering a high level of service.

Key responsibilities

• Open shipment files, allocate numbers and establish landside, transport and third‑party rates.
• Verify that shipping line invoices match internal buying rates and capture accruals, demurrage and detention.
• Collect and validate all shipment documentation, provide it to the clearing department and notify consignees.
• Coordinate with clients, carriers and internal teams to arrange shipping methods and monitor cargo arrivals.
• Update event controls and capture data in Cargowise, ensuring accurate records for customs clearance.
• Assist with shipment close‑out, tracking from indent to proof of delivery and invoice payment.
• Provide administrative support to the Sea Freight Import team and resolve client queries promptly.
• Maintain strong relationships with carriers, agents and clients to enhance brand reputation.

Required profile

• Matric (NCFF NQF 3/4); FIATA diploma is advantageous.
• Comprehensive knowledge of freight forwarding, customs requirements and Incoterms.
• 3‑5 years of experience in Ocean Import services.
• Logistics or related degree/diploma is advantageous.
• Eligibility to work in the country of employment.
