General Assistant – Swimming Pool Maintenance

About the role

The General Assistant will support the upkeep of the Touwsrivier swimming pool and its surrounding facilities. Working under the caretaker’s direction, you will ensure the pool area meets hygiene and safety standards for visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Receive verbal work instructions and prioritize cleaning tasks.
• Clean and maintain the pool (vacuuming, sweeping, brooming).
• Trim lawns and verges using handheld machines such as bush cutters and lawn mowers.
• Mop floors and wash/disinfect ablution units, restocking supplies as needed.
• Mix and apply chemical detergents for stain removal and surface cleaning.
• Unblock drains and ablution units using appropriate chemicals and cleaning rods.
• Collect and replace refuse bags from public bins.
• Promote the swimming pool to visitors and provide basic assistance.

Required profile

• Grade 8 qualification.
• Minimum 6 months relevant experience in cleaning or facilities maintenance.
• Basic life skills and strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in at least two official languages of the Western Cape.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a municipal environment.

Required skills

• Machine operation (bush cutters, lawn mowers, pool cleaning equipment).
• Handling and mixing of cleaning chemicals.
