Fitter

About the role

The company is seeking a skilled Fitter to join its plant maintenance team in Lyttelton. The role involves maintaining and repairing a range of crushing and conveying equipment to ensure continuous production.

Key responsibilities

• Daily liaison with the Maintenance Manager, reporting breakdowns and submitting job cards.
• Fault‑finding, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment, including cone crushers, jaw crushers, screens and conveyor systems.
• Performing inspections, greasing, oil pressure and temperature monitoring, and monthly oil sampling on gearboxes and crushers.
• Carrying out preventive maintenance tasks such as skirting replacement, idler changes, belt alignment and tension adjustments.
• Maintaining lifting equipment, water dust suppression system and plant water facilities.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate and a Trade Certificate as a Fitter or Fitter and Turner.
• 3‑5 years post‑apprentice experience in surface plant maintenance.
• Valid driver’s licence, own transport and ability to work overtime under pressure.

Required skills

• Mechanical repair of crushers (Symons, Sandvik, HP300, Osborn) and screens.
• Conveyor belt, vibrating grizzly feeder, gearbox, bearing and pump maintenance.
• Oil pressure, hydraulic pressure and temperature monitoring.
• Lifting equipment inspection and lubrication of gearboxes and crushers.
