Financial Controller – Cape Town

About the role

This high‑impact Financial Controller position reports directly to the CFO and is responsible for safeguarding financial integrity across the entire organisation. The role is ideal for a resilient, hands‑on finance leader who thrives in a dynamic, purpose‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full finance function, ensuring accuracy, compliance and robust controls.
• Prepare monthly journals, general‑ledger reconciliations and management accounts.
• Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to senior management and the board.
• Perform variance analysis against budgets and forecasts, highlighting risks and opportunities.
• Manage cash flow, produce rolling forecasts and ensure all financial obligations are met.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and calculate monthly depreciation.
• Supervise accounts payable and receivable to guarantee timely collections and payments.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with department heads.
• Ensure compliance with SARS requirements, including VAT, EMP201 and UIF submissions.
• Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and manage audit deliverables.
• Oversee grant and donor‑fund reporting to meet funding requirements.
• Lead and develop a small finance team, providing guidance and review.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of financial accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven track record in reconciliations, monthly reporting and financial controls.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and board‑level reporting.
• Background in non‑profit, donor‑funded or highly regulated environments is advantageous.
• Strong leadership, resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
• Diploma or BCom degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent qualification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage, SAP or Business Central.
