Cook – Full-time Hotel Kitchen

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Cook to join the kitchen team at a leading hotel in Johannesburg. The role involves preparing high‑quality meals, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting smooth kitchen operations in a fast‑paced hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients – portion, chop, wash, peel, weigh, measure and store food items.
• Cook dishes according to recipes, quality and presentation standards, including hot and cold foods.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers safely.
• Test and monitor food for proper cooking and temperature compliance.
• Set up and break down work stations, serve food in correct portions and maintain clean work areas.
• Wash and disinfect kitchen surfaces, tools, knives and equipment after each shift.
• Follow all safety, security and hygiene policies, report incidents and complete required training.
• Maintain a professional uniform and personal appearance, and communicate clearly with team members.

Required profile

• Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lb.
• Capability to reach overhead, bend, twist, pull and stoop safely.
• Commitment to follow company policies, safety procedures and confidentiality requirements.
• Team‑oriented attitude with good communication skills.

Required skills

• Operating kitchen equipment (ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, fryers).
• Food preparation techniques – chopping, portioning, measuring.
• Food safety and hygiene practices, including temperature checks and sanitation.
