Business Development Executive (Rail Industry)

About the role
The Business Development Executive will drive growth in the mining and surface rail sectors by acquiring new customers and expanding existing accounts. This position requires frequent travel across South Africa and other African regions to showcase products and build strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and secure new customers within mining and surface rail‑related industries.
- Travel to client sites to present, demonstrate, and promote products and services.
- Arrange meetings, demonstrations, and presentations with qualified prospects and senior stakeholders.
- Prepare and present proposals and support tender submissions.
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to ensure smooth lead handover and onboarding.
- Act as primary contact and relationship manager for assigned customers.
- Monitor competitor activity, industry trends, infrastructure projects and upcoming tenders.
- Identify new market segments and growth opportunities.
- Drive profitable sales growth through customer acquisition and account expansion.
- Compile and submit regular sales and activity reports.
Required profile
- 5–7 years of experience in external technical sales or business development.
- Exposure to the mining or rail industry is advantageous.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within South Africa and other African regions.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
- Performance‑driven with a strong results orientation.
- Proven cold‑calling, prospecting, and networking capability.
Required skills
- Proficiency in MS Word.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Experience with digital and social media platforms for business development.
