Assistant Technician – Wayleaves (MN4140/26)

About the role

The Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking an Assistant Technician to manage wayleave applications and support the Assistant Director with engineering comments on land use. The role involves coordinating with line departments, applicants, and stakeholders to ensure timely permit approvals.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with line departments and wayleave applicants to facilitate permit approvals and support engineering land‑use comments.
• Prepare and monitor Service‑Level Agreements, track performance, and report on service delivery.
• Build and maintain relationships with public and private stakeholders, providing coordination and administrative support.
• Manage applicant expectations, minimise complaints, and resolve disputes related to wayleaves.
• Identify bottlenecks in the wayleave process and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and a National Diploma in Civil Engineering (or related) with knowledge of spatial planning and land use.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience within a local government authority.
• Valid driver’s licence and professional registration with ECSA (advantageous).
• Ability to meet MFMA competency requirements or obtain dispensation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
• Project management and financial management capabilities.
• Understanding of civil engineering principles, spatial planning and land‑use legislation.

What we offer

• Salary range: R 408 648 – R 451 380 per annum (total package up to R 615 848.68).
• Travel cost reimbursement for candidates travelling over 400 km for interview or assessments.
