2-Year GP Conversion Programme in Ireland

About the role

This two-year conversion programme enables qualified doctors with at least three years of General Practice experience to obtain a recognised Family Medicine specialisation in Ireland. Participants will be placed in rural GP clinics, delivering comprehensive primary-care services while completing the required academic and examination components.

Key responsibilities

• Provide unsupervised, full-time patient appointments in a primary-care setting.
• Manage acute and chronic illnesses across all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics.
• Undertake self-directed learning modules with the Irish College of General Practitioners.
• Prepare for and sit the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and Certificate of Knowledge in Training (CKT) examinations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in rural clinic environments.

Required profile

• Minimum 36 months of full-time GP/Family Medicine experience delivering unsupervised patient care.
• Eligibility for General Registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new clinical environments.
