Workshop Manager – Commercial Diesel Vehicles

About the role

This hands‑on leadership role is responsible for running a 24/7 workshop that services commercial diesel trucks and buses. You will oversee daily operations, lead a technical team, and act as the primary point of contact for fleet clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day workshop flow, ensuring quality repairs and timely turnaround.
• Provide technical oversight on diagnostics, repairs and servicing of Scania, MAN, Volvo and Shacman vehicles.
• Mentor, evaluate and schedule workshop technicians and support staff.
• Handle job cards, quotations, and administrative paperwork accurately.
• Communicate directly with clients to explain repairs, set expectations and resolve fleet issues.
• Participate in the standby roster and respond to after‑hours breakdowns.
• Order parts, manage consumables and coordinate with suppliers.
• Maintain workshop safety, housekeeping and compliance standards.
• Report performance metrics and technical issues to management.

Required profile

• Strong mechanical knowledge of commercial trucks and buses, especially Scania, MAN, Volvo and Shacman.
• Proven experience in the commercial truck/bus sector (dealership, fleet or independent workshop).
• Previous workshop management or supervisory role.
• Solid administrative abilities – job cards, quoting, scheduling and reporting.
• Excellent communication skills with clients and technical staff.
• Willingness to work on a 24/7 standby roster.
• Valid driver’s licence; relevant trade qualification (Diesel Mechanic/Red Seal) advantageous.
