Ward Clerk – Hospital Administration

About the role

The Ward Clerk will support the nursing team at Life Peglerae Hospital by handling administrative tasks, coordinating patient transport, and ensuring smooth inter‑departmental communication. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the role is essential for maintaining efficient, non‑clinical operations within the ward.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely administrative support to the nursing team, including documentation filing and record keeping.
• Coordinate patient bookings and transport services, ensuring accuracy and punctuality.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of safety standards, emergency procedures, and hospital protocols.
• Attend scheduled meetings, in‑service training, and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure a safe and professional environment by adhering to safety standards and confidentiality requirements.
• Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and hospital staff.
• Support the unit in achieving service targets and quality benchmarks.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of general administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Matric Certificate (or equivalent).
• Strong organisational, planning and deadline‑driven work habits.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships, solve problems and maintain professional discretion.
• Resilience and a customer‑focused attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
