Utility Worker (Wastewater)

About the role

This entry‑level position supports the City of Fremont Wastewater Treatment Plant by performing general labor and maintenance tasks. It offers a pathway to more skilled utility positions within the Department of Utilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general labor activities to assist utility departments and plant operations.
• Conduct preventative maintenance checks on equipment and report issues.
• Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility assets.
• Operate light and heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, compressors, and composting machinery.
• Perform building and yard maintenance, including mowing and spraying.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate eager to learn and advance within municipal utilities.
• Ability to perform prolonged manual labor and safely use hand tools.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Required skills

• Operating trenchers and backhoes.
• Operating compressors and composting equipment (screener, turner, loader).
• Preventative maintenance of mechanical systems.
• General mechanical aptitude.
