Unit Manager – Mental Health (2 positions)

About the role

The Life Poortview Hospital is seeking two experienced Unit Managers to lead its Mental Health Unit. You will be responsible for coordinating clinical practice, resources and people to meet the hospital’s quality and growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible clinical leadership that motivates staff and aligns with Life Healthcare’s values and nursing strategy.
• Implement person‑centred nursing care and coordinate multidisciplinary interventions for optimal patient outcomes.
• Manage all people‑related processes, including performance management, employee engagement, talent development and succession planning.
• Ensure staff competence through learning environments, professional development, mentorship and equipment training.
• Maintain effective communication, give timely feedback and build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Promote customer satisfaction by handling complaints, conducting quality care rounds, clinical audits and improvement initiatives.
• Implement quality and patient‑safety initiatives, report outcomes and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee financial resources, stock, consumables and equipment, and manage nursing costs within approved budgets.
• Identify clinical, patient‑safety and business risks, ensure 100% incident reporting and drive best operating practices.

Required profile

• Proven clinical leadership experience in a mental health or acute care setting.
• Strong ability to motivate, engage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality, patient safety and continuous improvement.
• Capability to manage budgets, resources and financial performance.
