Unit Manager – Medical Ward (ICU Trained)

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team on a medical ward, ensuring safe, cost‑effective, high‑quality patient care. The role combines clinical governance with capacity‑building activities such as mentoring, coaching and training, and requires an ICU‑trained registered nurse.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence‑based patient care in line with the hospital’s clinical governance strategy.
• Monitor nursing quality indicators, clinical outcomes and patient experience.
• Communicate effectively with patients about their care and promote health and wellbeing for patients and staff.
• Implement infection‑prevention standards and international precautionary measures.
• Lead group quality initiatives and liaise with public liability on risk incidents.
• Oversee shift‑working schedules and ensure compliance with South African Nursing Council regulations.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification with registration on the South African Nursing Council.
• Minimum three years of management experience in a clinical setting.
• ICU training and compliance with all applicable health‑care legislation.
• Shift‑working flexibility.

Required skills

• SAP experience (preferably).
• BLS certification.
• Advanced computer literacy.
