Unit Manager – Medical and General Ward

About the role

We are seeking a Unit Manager for the Medical and General ward at Netcare The Bay Hospital. The role leads a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, cost-effective, high-quality nursing care while ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor nursing care delivery, ensuring adherence to clinical governance, infection control and patient safety standards.
• Manage financial aspects of the unit, including budgeting, cost control, billing, stock management and purchasing.
• Identify and implement quality-improvement initiatives, investigate incidents and ensure risk management compliance.
• Lead, mentor and develop nursing staff, oversee staffing levels, attendance and professional development.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships with doctors, suppliers and other departments to support seamless service delivery.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with SANC registration (including midwife/accoucheur qualification).
• Relevant nursing qualification (Diploma or BCur) and preferably a postgraduate diploma in health services management or related field.
• At least two years’ experience in a private hospital setting with clinical leadership responsibilities.
• Intermediate computer proficiency.

• Computer proficiency (intermediate level).
• Ability to interpret financial data and manage unit budgets.
