Unit Manager - General ICU & Surgical Ward

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the General ICU and Surgical Ward, ensuring high‑quality nursing care and seamless service delivery within a multidisciplinary team. The role also includes capacity building, mentoring, coaching, and overseeing training and development for staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, cost‑effective, evidence‑based patient care aligned with the Hospital Group’s clinical governance strategy.
• Evaluate the patient journey through experience surveys and stakeholder feedback.
• Monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes, reporting findings to senior leadership.
• Communicate clearly with patients about their care plans and progress.
• Promote health and wellbeing for patients and employees.
• Enforce infection‑prevention standards and international precautions.
• Implement group quality initiatives and liaise with public liability on risk incidents.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (B Cur Degree or equivalent) and a management qualification.
• Registered Nurse status with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and compliance with SANC code and health legislation.
• Compulsory Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced computer literacy.
• Post‑basic qualification in ICU; ICU management experience is an advantage.
