Unit Manager – Emergency and Surgical Units

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the Emergency and Surgical Units at Life Queenstown Private Hospital, reporting to the Nurse Manager. The role focuses on coordinating clinical practice, resources and staff to meet quality, growth and patient‑centred objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective clinical leadership and implement nursing care plans across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure staff competence, supervise students and promote a learning environment.
• Monitor patient satisfaction, handle complaints and conduct quality care rounds and audits.
• Implement national quality initiatives, identify clinical and safety risks and drive corrective actions.
• Lead people management processes, uphold LHC values and sponsor improvement projects.
• Participate in business planning, budgeting and manage nursing costs within allocated budget.
• Oversee stock utilisation, equipment training and maintenance to ensure a safe patient environment.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including doctors, patients and service providers.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in emergency and surgical settings.
• Proven leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management.
• Ability to manage budgets, stock and equipment resources effectively.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
