Unit Manager – Clinical Leadership (X1)

About the role

The Unit Manager (X1) will lead the clinical team at Life Nkanyisa Kirkwood Care Centre, a chronic psychiatric hospital in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the role ensures delivery of high‑quality, compliant care while supporting the centre’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective clinical leadership and oversee implementation of nursing care plans.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary treatment programmes to achieve defined clinical outcomes.
• Conduct quality care rounds, audits, and address patient or family complaints.
• Implement national quality initiatives and monitor safety risks, applying corrective actions as needed.
• Drive people‑related processes, promote staff competence, and foster a learning environment.
• Manage nursing budgets, equipment procurement, stock utilisation and ensure equipment is operational.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders, doctors, patients, families and external service providers.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with proven leadership experience in a psychiatric or intermediate‑care setting.
• Strong understanding of health‑care legislation, nursing standards and quality frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, equipment and stock resources.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
