Underwriting and Claims Leader – Life Insurance

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Underwriting and Claims Leader to drive both underwriting and claims functions within a dynamic life insurance environment. The role combines strategic oversight, risk management, and service excellence to ensure high‑quality decision‑making and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the Underwriting and Claims teams, monitoring performance against service levels and quality standards.
• Ensure underwriting decisions align with company policy, risk appetite and guidelines; review complex or high‑value cases.
• Oversee claims assessment and settlement, managing escalated, disputed or complex claims while maintaining fairness and risk controls.
• Maintain compliance with legislation, internal governance, reinsurer requirements and underwriting authorities; support audit processes.
• Prepare and present monthly performance reports, analyse trends and recommend process improvements.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, develop SOPs and build strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in underwriting and claims within life insurance.
• Strong understanding of risk management, regulatory compliance and audit requirements.
• Excellent analytical abilities and a data‑driven approach to performance monitoring.
• Effective communication skills for stakeholder management and team development.

Required skills

• Knowledge of underwriting guidelines and claims settlement processes.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing life insurance.
• Experience with performance reporting and trend analysis.
