Transportation Engineer – Pretoria

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer to lead civil engineering activities for rail logistics projects. The role is based in Cape Town and involves extensive on‑site work and travel to project locations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the civil discipline in feasibility studies, business cases and procurement strategy.
• Develop rail development plans and provide technical inputs for design, development and evaluation of projects.
• Drive strategic integrated transport and logistics planning across major capital projects.
• Manage project and programme delivery, monitor site progress and prepare client documentation.
• Conduct risk analysis, modelling and Stage 1‑6 engineering assessments.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering, registered Professional Engineer.
• Minimum 10 years experience in rail logistics or rail civil works, including drainage, formation and geometric design.
• Proven ability to work independently, lead teams and travel for extended periods.

Required skills

• Geometric and formation design using relevant codes and standards.
• Risk analysis and procurement strategy development.
• Modelling and Stage 1‑6 engineering.
• Programming in Python and Java.
• Advanced Excel.
• Ethical use of AI for research and solution development.
