Trainee Technician – Railway Maintenance (Midrand)

About the role

Bombela Maintenance, a subsidiary of Alstom, is seeking two Trainee Technicians to join the Gautrain Maintenance Depot in Midrand, Johannesburg. The role offers hands‑on experience in railway maintenance, supporting the production team to keep trains safe, reliable and available through preventive and corrective activities.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all safety and quality regulations while working on rolling stock.
• Assist the team with scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
• Support corrective maintenance actions when faults arise.
• Perform basic administration in the MAXIMO maintenance management system.
• Handle tools, equipment and materials correctly and efficiently.
• Work collaboratively and manage own tasks within shift patterns that may include nights, weekends and public holidays.

Required profile

• Grade 12, S4 or N6 National Certificate (excluding P1 & P2).
• South African citizenship.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights and tolerate noise.
• Normal colour vision and good hearing.
• Rail or production experience is an advantage but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Basic proficiency with the MAXIMO maintenance management software.
