Trade Debtors Assistant (Fixed-Term)

About the role

The Trade Debtors Assistant will support the finance team by managing trade and demurrage invoices, collecting outstanding payments, and handling customer queries. This fixed‑term position is based in Durban and involves close collaboration with operational departments.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate customer master data and accounts in the accounting system.
• Issue invoices and statements, prepare credit notes and process client refunds.
• Contact customers via phone, email or mail to collect overdue debts and resolve queries.
• Monitor accounts for overdue payments and negotiate payment plans.
• Reconcile demurrage suspense accounts and calculate monthly demurrage commissions.
• Support month‑end and year‑end closing processes and prepare debt reports.
• Maintain organized filing systems for all debtor‑related documents.
• Perform general administrative tasks related to debtors as directed by management.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of finance or accounts‑receivable experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organizational and time‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
