Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic Apprenticeship – 3‑Year Programme

About the role

AFGRI Equipment offers a three‑year, in‑service apprenticeship to train candidates as Tractor Mechanics or Earthmoving Mechanics. The programme begins with a six‑month probation period during which both the apprentice and the company assess suitability. After successful probation, the apprentice signs a formal three‑year contract and undertakes a blend of on‑the‑job training, practical institute attendance, distance‑learning modules (often on Saturdays), and product training from suppliers and internal specialists. Training is funded by AgriSETA or MerSETA and is free of charge if the apprentice passes; any failed subjects must be repeated at the apprentice’s own cost. The contract includes a work‑back period equal to the qualification time and cannot exceed four years.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence
• Good communication, administrative and computer literacy skills
• Grade 12 with English and Mathematics/Technical Mathematics passed
• Additional subjects such as Engineering/Technical Science, Engineering Graphics & Design, Diesel Trade Theory or Motor Trade Theory are advantageous
