Toolmaker / Technical Draughtsman

About the role

Communicate Engineering is seeking an experienced Toolmaker/Technical Draughtsman to join its precision engineering team in Johannesburg East. You will translate engineering concepts into functional tooling, fixtures and manufacturing solutions while supporting continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop tooling, fixtures and manufacturing aids based on production requirements.
• Set up and operate manual milling machines and lathes to manufacture or modify tooling components.
• Maintain the toolroom, perform tool modifications and drive improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and update technical and manufacturing drawings.
• Assist with product development, reverse engineering and prototype activities.
• Collaborate with production teams to ensure tooling meets quality and efficiency standards.
• Conduct measurements and inspections using precision equipment to verify dimensional accuracy.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in toolmaking, machining or a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and proven problem‑solving ability.
• Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
• South African residency or a valid work permit.
